Two years in the making. One Super Bowl victory later. Mike Macdonald just pulled off the reunion Seahawks fans have been whispering about since 2024.
The Long-Awaited Homecoming Nobody Saw Coming
Back when Macdonald left Baltimore for Seattle, he wanted Zachary Orr by his side. It didn’t happen then. But after the Seahawks paraded down the streets as Super Bowl LX champions, the call finally came—and Orr answered.
Sources told ESPN that the 33-year-old former Ravens defensive coordinator is heading to Seattle as inside linebackers coach. Yes, you read that right: the man who replaced Macdonald as Baltimore’s DC, the hot young name interviewing for multiple coordinator jobs this offseason, is taking what looks like a step down to reunite with his mentor on a championship roster.
Why Now? Why This Role?
Orr just turned down chances to stay a defensive coordinator elsewhere—including a requested interview with the Raiders. Instead, he’s choosing the defending champs and the coach who knows his schemes inside out. Loyalty? Masterstroke? Or the smartest career move in the NFL right now?
The questions are already swirling: What does this mean for Kirk Olivadotti, Seattle’s ILB coach the past two seasons? Is this the first domino in Macdonald’s plan to lock down a dynasty defense?
A Rising Star Returns to His Roots
Orr’s history with the Ravens runs deep—he played inside linebacker for them from 2014 to 2016 before transitioning to coaching. He spent two seasons coaching Baltimore’s ILBs before stepping into the DC role when Macdonald left. Now he’s bringing that aggressive, attacking mindset straight to a Seahawks defense that just dominated the league.
And he’s not coming alone. Former Ravens staffer Daniel Stern is also joining Macdonald’s staff in a yet-to-be-determined role, further strengthening the Baltimore-to-Seattle pipeline.
While the Seahawks sort out their offensive coordinator search after Klint Kubiak’s departure, Macdonald is wasting no time fortifying the side of the ball that just won them a ring.
One thing is clear: Seattle isn’t resting on their championship. They’re reloading—and Zach Orr might be the spark that keeps this defense terrifying for years to come.
